Os homens apercebem-se que não existe a tal mulher perfeita que as revistas gostam tanto de publicitar e têm vindo a valorizar o seu interior que até agora vinha sendo desvalorizado ...

Shanel Lu

Hometown: Landover, Maryland

Occupation: Manicurist

Favorite food: Anything with curry

Favorite color: Red

Favorite movie: Old classic sappy love stories

Beautiful time:

I felt absolutely beautiful on my wedding day. That was one moment in my life when I was the queen of the night. It was a special day when everything was about me. I felt like I was floating on a cloud. Throughout the day, everyone was surrounding me with loving comments and reminding me of how beautiful I looked.

You’re excited about this campaign because

I absolutely love what it represents. I love the thought of being a part of an ad that would potentially touch many young girls to tell them that it is alright to be unique and everyone is beautiful in their own skin. I remember being at an age when I felt out of shape and wondering if one day I could be beautiful in others eyes.

Julie Arko

Hometown: Bellmore, New York (moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1989)

Occupation: Kindergarten teacher

Favorite food: Pizza! Of course.

Favorite color: Green and blue

Favorite movie: I love The Wizard of Oz, comedies and action movies

Favorite curves:

My butt and hips. I love being curvy! It’s fabulous! My sister and I both got our curves from our mother.

Interests:

I like to travel, work out, shop and listen to music. I enjoy photography and I sing in a community chorus.

Surprising fact:

I really do like NASCAR and football!

Beautiful time:

I don’t think there was one certain time in my life when I felt beautiful or not so beautiful. Being a woman is beautiful. Waking up every morning and living a happy, healthy life is beautiful. Living each day to the fullest is beautiful. Being thankful for everything in my life is beautiful.

You’re excited about this campaign because

It sends such a positive message: It’s okay to be you! Not every woman comes in a size 2 package. It’s who you are on the inside that counts; it’s the “whole package”!

Lindsey Stokes

Hometown: Silver Spring, Maryland

Occupation: Fashion design student and salesperson

Favorite food: Mexican food or strawberry shortcake

Favorite color: White

Favorite movie: Shag, Pretty in Pink and Teen Witch

Favorite curves: I love my shoulders. They are so soft and smooth and very feminine.

Interests: Drawing/designing clothing, music and traveling

Surprising fact:

I get nervous a lot and feel shy plenty of the time. Most people would say that I am very confident and loud, but I am very sensitive too.

Beautiful time:

I feel beautiful right now, with everyone being so proud of me finishing school and with this whole Dove campaign. It’s nice to know that my friends and family are really supportive and truly happy and excited for me.

You’re excited about this campaign because

It is very positive and very real! It’s different. Young girls need to see real women like themselves in print ads or on TV.

Sigrid Sutter

Hometown: Hacienda Heights, California

Occupation: Administrative Assistant

Favorite food: Sweet breakfasts and coffee with whipped cream

Favorite color: Rainbow

Favorite movie: The Anniversary Party

Favorite curves: My chest, shoulders and neck, because my skin is porcelain white and I have great shoulders and I think it’s just a pretty, feminine place. It’s where my heart is. It’s open and strong. And you can reveal it without showing too much.

Interests:

I spend my weekends and weeknights doing theater, seeing shows and meeting friends for drinks. I watch a lot of movies and am still trying to catch up on classics. I love coffee, not just for its effects but for its taste; I could eat coffee beans straight. I love walking through downtown San Francisco and being amused by the crowds of people. I go to SFMOMA and catch photography exhibits, but I can never stay too long; the quiet drives me crazy.

Surprising fact:

I saved my dad’s life one night at dinner when he was choking.

Beautiful time:

I had the best kiss in the world. I was at London Heathrow waiting to meet my boyfriend, whom I hadn’t seen in four months. His flight was delayed, and I stood by the gate sweating, my heart beating with mad anticipation. When he came through the automatic door, I called out his name and jumped over the velvet rope. He dropped his bag, ran toward me and kissed me. At that moment I just felt perfect and beautiful and totally in love.

You’re excited about this campaign because

I believe this campaign is doing a good and smart thing by promoting the idea of real beauty. Truth is beauty.

Gina Crisanti

Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas

Occupation: Barista at Argo Tea Café

Favorite food: Artichokes

Favorite color: Red

Favorite movie: You Can Count on Me

Favorite curves: The small of my back, because it’s so nice and subtle compared to some of my other curves.

Interests:

I love being out in the sun, exploring the city, playing catch, rollerblading, jogging, yoga, shopping, hanging out at the lake, and, of course, spending time with friends and family.

Surprising fact:

I’ve never seen Star Wars or The Matrix.

Beautiful time:

In general, I feel beautiful when I keep a positive attitude, take responsibility for what is within my control and leave the rest up to life.

You’re excited about this campaign because

It encourages the viewer to let go of society’s narrow, fantastical idea of beauty, and embrace beautiful reality.

Stacy Nadeau

Hometown: Ann Arbor, Michigan

Occupation: Full-time student

Favorite food: French fries, they are my guilty pleasure

Favorite color: Baby blue

Favorite movies:

Dirty Dancing and A League of Their Own are my all-time favorites, but The Notebook has a new place in my heart

Favorite curves:

My curve on both sides of my torso. I definitely inherited that curve from my mom. I’ll never forget when I was younger and I used to look at her honeymoon pictures when she was in her bikini on the beach. She had the longest, flattest stomach. I remember thinking she was so beautiful and I wanted to look just like her.

Interests:

I love everything from hanging with friends to reading an awesome book. I love watching movies, but my favorite hobby is dancing. I love everything from hip hop to salsa, anything with a funky, fast beat.

Surprising fact:

I love to travel but hate to fly.

Beautiful time:

Some of my best memories of feeling beautiful were dressing up for my dance shows. I don’t think it was the makeup and costumes that made me feel pretty, but the confidence I had in myself when I was on stage. I was always a little nervous, with butterflies in my stomach, but when I got up there, I forgot about it all and just did what I did best: danced my heart out. There is nothing better than the feeling of being in front of a live audience. The adrenaline rush I get is amazing. That is when I have the most confidence and feel the best about myself.

You’re excited about this campaign because

I can be part of attempting to finally change the media’s view on women’s body types. I have always been a curvier girl and always will be. I am proud of my body and think all women should be proud of theirs too. This is my time to encourage and help women feel great about themselves no matter what they weigh or look like. Women have surrendered to diets and insane eating habits to live up to social stereotypes for too long. It’s time that all women felt beautiful in their own skin.
